What is it about?
The emotional demands of the HR role have largely been ignored despite the emotionally challenging situations that inevitably arise out of, for example, performance management or restructuring and redundancy programmes and from the everyday challenges of dealing with the differing needs of employees and managers. This paper examines the emotional challenges in HR work. We explore the expectations placed on HR practitioners to express emotions in a manner that is deemed acceptable by the organisation and the consequences of this emotion management.
