What is it about?

With a theoretical background inspired by the accommodations framework in education and theories of human capital, this article highlights how differences in family structure could reproduce inequalities through parental involvement practices in elementary school.

At a time when parental involvement policies are the cornerstones in educational reform, it is necessary to assess the possibility that such practices reproduce inequalities.

Perspectives

I enjoyed working on this project because it built up my perspective and understanding of parental involvement in school and how seemingly straightforward and logical educational reforms can actually exclude groups of people and lead to undesirable outcomes.
