What is it about?

We developed a biopsy procedure for collecting small amounts of adipose tissue in the furcular area of small and medium-sized birds without adverse effects.

Why is it important?

Analysis of fatty acids from adipose tissue can provide important information about the physiological and nutritional condition of birds.

Perspectives

This non-lethal biopsy is relatively simple to perform, and I recommend it as an alternative to lethal methods for sampling adipose tissue in studies of wild and captive birds.
