What is it about?
The paper is about organisational change and how predictable it is. It uses the 'J curve' to explain the findings: it took two years for things to return to normal after implementing a new health record system.

Why is it important?
This is important because managers often struggle to get new ideas implemented. The paper offers some useful insights that will hopefully be applicable to other managers thinking of implementing a big change in their organisation.
Perspectives
This was a fascinating prospective longitudinal study. We genuinely didn't know what to expect, and I think everyone was surprised at the depth of the impact, particularly on the nurses. The nurses felt that they had to change the way they told the patient story. They felt the new system somehow diminished this. I'd like to think that as a consequence of this paper other managers might be more sensitive to the impact of their decisions on nursing culture.
