What is it about?
We were interested in whether receiving government assistance in one budget area (in this case, government food or housing assistance) offers benefits in other areas of household budgets.

Why is it important?
Material hardship policies (food stamps, WIC, Section 8 housing vouchers, heating assistance, etc.) that attempt to reduce food hardships or housing hardships may be altered to become more efficient at providing assistance if cross-program benefits are found. If none are found, then policies that target specific hardships will provide the best assistance.
