What is it about?

This study aimed to evaluate the respiratory and cardiovascular effects caused by associating ketamine S(+) with midazolam or dexmedetomidine, and racemic ketamine with dexmedetomidine in golden lion tamarins that underwent vasectomy surgery; establish the latency, recovery, and effective periods; and assess the levels of relaxation, sedation, and antinociception.

Why is it important?

Due to the lack of information related to surgical procedures in New World primates and the need to use safe protocols with a desirable antinociceptive effect in the field anesthesia, this study was the first to correlate 3 different anesthetic protocols in an endangered non-human primate undergoing surgery.
