Why is it important?

The combined effect of massage therapy and multisensory environment had increased inactivity and passivity of the participants, presenting in a more relaxed manner than individual single intervention. Different alert levels of the Alertness Observation Checklist could provide better understanding the attention and responsiveness of people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities.

Perspectives

Study on people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities is not an easy task because they cannot communicate their feelings and needs. As a carer, our job is to minimise their frustration and challenging behaviour, and improve their quality of life in residential living.
