What is it about?

Thiopurine drugs are most commonly used to suppress the normal activity of the body's immune system in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. However different individual responds different to the thiopurine therapy leading to severe life threatening side effect in some due to differences in the DNA. Our study for first time have showed that NUDT15 gene test can helps to identify Indian patients, who would develop side effect prior to starting the thiopurine therapy.

Why is it important?

Most importantly, in future, the NUDT15 DNA test will immensely helps the treating clinican to effectively manage patients on thiopurine therapy and decrease the incidences of adverse drug toxicity in Indians.
