What is it about?

MLVA is a molecular method that helps to identify and trace strains of E. piscicida with respect to their sources

Why is it important?

It has important epidemiological tool in tracing the source of disease outbreaks

Perspectives

Designing and optimising this molecular tool was the most challenging part of this article as it requires screening the genome of different strains to get highly polymorphic repeat loci and amplification of several repeat loci to select most appropriate ones. The MLVA method reported here is a highly powerful molecular tool for fine typing or discrimination of Edwardsiella piscicida strains according to the source of isolation (host, farm, geographical location).
