Why is it important?
The discovery of the new fish species will help in the conservation of fish species in the Mizoram Rivers
Perspectives
Out of the eight valid Tariqilabeo species, only two species, viz. T. burmanicus and T. latius, are listed to occur in the northeastern region of India. T. burmanicus is distributed in the Chindwin-Irrawaddy basin whereas T. latius is in the Ganges-Brahmaputra basin. The new discovery added the occurrence of Tariqilabeo species in the northeast region indicating the rich diversity of fishes in the region.
