What is it about?
Myliobatis goodei and M. ridens co-occur in the same area and period. The incidence of pregnant females in Southern Brazil in spring-summer coincides with the small-scale beach artisanal fisheries season peak, when both species suffer fishing mortality, while using the coastal shallow areas to give birth.

Why is it important?
Myliobatis rays are vulnerable to artisanal fishing in southern Brazil and need of specific conservation measures in the region to prevent their decline, once these species are viviparous elasmobranchs with restricted geographic distribution.
