What is it about?

The Australian Lungfish has very specific habitat requirements for successful spawning and to facilitate recruitment. Large impoundments modify riverine habitats but it is uncertain how these modifications may impact recruitment. We studies a natural spawning event to determine the suitability of impoundment habitat for spawning and recruitment.

Why is it important?

Australian lungfish inhabit rivers within a rapidly growing urban region. This requires more water supplies to meet this demand that is often met by impounding rivers. This threatens the amount of riverine habitat to support lungfish recruitment. We sort to understand the importance of impoundment habitats for lungfish recruitment.
