What is it about?
Monitoring and prevention of healthcare–associated infections (HAIs) is a priority for the healthcare sector. We show how the adoption of lean practices and along with the use of Six Sigma results in an effective and useful stategy to reduce the risk of HAI in surgery interventions and the number of hospitalization days.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that proper use of management tools can improve healthcare systems not only from the clinical but also from the economic point of view. Our versatile approach, together with other tools for reducing the risk of infection (surveillance, epidemiological guidelines, training of healthcare personnel), could be applied to redesign and improve a wide range of healthcare processes
