What is it about?
An examination of the serial homology of butterfly eyespots on the wings of Vanessa butterflies.

Why is it important?
Butterfly eyespots are serial homologs on several levels (eyespots on the same surface of the same wing; eyespots in the same position, but on different sides of the wing; eyespots in the same position on the forewing and the hindwing), making them a very good system in which to explore the relationship of serial homology to the biological processes responsible for regulating development.
