What is it about?

This study addresses a common problem seen in everyday practice and that is control of root hypersensitivity developed following periodontal treatment including non-surgical and surgical techniques. Use of desensitizing agents well before the initiation of periodontal therapy has the potential to prevent the occurrence and treat root hypersensitivity during the entire course of periodontal therapy.

Why is it important?

Control of root hypersensitivity over the entire spectrum of periodontal therapy has the potential to facilitate home care plaque control measures and patient's compliance as they feel more comfortable to brush their teeth and regularly attend follow up visits at practice that are free of any discomfort.

Perspectives

Using desensitizing agents before the commencement of periodontal therapy (non-surgical and surgical) to control root hypersensitivity may change the paradigm in a dental/periodontal practice, where pain free practices are sought.
