What is it about?

This review article aims at providing an updated overview of the existing knowledge on the role of stromal cells in moulding the correct shape and tissue architecture of organs during embryonic development

Why is it important?

Increasing evidence indicates that a correct interplay between stromal cells and parenchymal cells is fundamental for organ development. Due to its complex shape, the heart is a good paradigm of these concepts

Perspectives

The authors'own research expertise in the field of heart morphogenesis and post-developmental regeneration upon ischemia-induced infarction offered them the opportunity to extend and discuss what they have learned from the heart model about the possible roles of stromal cells in cardiac tissue organization
