What is it about?

This article provides the latest update on prevalence, awareness, treatment and control rates in many countries in Asia particularly SEA. This will be a very useful and quick reference to find information. HBPM in Asia is also discussed particularly the lack of use of it plus whether HBPM is included in the national Hypertension guidelines

Why is it important?

Unawareness is very high in Asia especially SEA. Control rates are low. This highlights need to screen more and control to target. HBPM use should be encouraged to get better control of hypertension

Perspectives

As nearly more than half with elevated blood pressure are unaware, it is paramount that more public education, regular screening campaigns should be conducted Without getting these aware people to be aware and treated reduction in CV mortality and morbidity will still be substantial in most Asian countries. Screening is very cost-effective when built around community clinics (we have done a simple analysis of this)
