What is it about?
Among natural isolates of Bacillus one was found that produce bacteriocin. Bacteriocin was purified and N-terminal sequence was determined W E E Y N I I X Q L G N K G Q. It was found that bacteriocin licheniocin 50·2 produced by B. licheniformis VPS50.2 is novel and active against Gram-positive bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and β-haemolytic streptococci

Why is it important?
bacteriocin licheniocin 50.2 could be used for biocontrol of pathogens especially against multi-drug resistant pathogens
Perspectives
Bacteriocin are not often discovered in the genus Bacillus and we expect this publication to launch more research on this
