Why is it important?

This article sums up in an accessible way how the social context of exploration and colonialism was an important concept to writers of the English Romantic period. In this way it emphasises the historical necessity of studying the influences of the time on the writers we study, to present new, important dimensions, through which we can engage with their poetry and prose.

Perspectives

I think this article provides a useful, succinct, and easy to read account of this aspect of history and its impact on the literary productions of Romantic-period writers.
