What is it about?

This study examines whether slack and planning contribute toward or inhibit organizational performance. The results of a survey of 174 public and private organizations from the United Arab Emirates show that both slack and comprehensiveness are important predictors of performance and that the impact of slack and comprehensiveness on performance varies with the age of an organization. Interestingly, this study shows that extensiveness does not influence performance.

Why is it important?

No single study appears to simultaneously and explicitly examines the combined impact of slack and planning on performance. This study aims to contribute to the knowledge of the performance of organizations, primarily by simultaneously investigating the influence of slack and planning, namely, the comprehensiveness of strategic decisions and the extensiveness of strategic planning, on performance, taking into account the unique aspects of the UAE.

Perspectives

I hope this article brings the attention of managers in United Arab Emirates to the need of their organizations to improve the practice of strategic planning in order to enhance the role of strategic planning on organizational performance.
