What is it about?

We decided to analyze this parallel IA testing strategy in terms of efficiency and accuracy to detect true HIV infection.

Why is it important?

To evaluate whether we could use concordance and or levels of reactivity on both IAs as an accurate predictor of true HIV infection status for prevalence and incidence analyses.

Perspectives

This study presents a systematic analysis of results of serologic screening of more than 2.5 million blood donations tested in parallel for HIV antibodies by two different screening tests. Reactivity by two screening assays, employed sequentially in a confirmatory algorithm, would have predictive positive value higher than 90% if the assays are selected from different manufacturers.
