Why is it important?
Though on a much smaller scale, Brazil's ecological movements have evolved closely in parallel with their first world counterparts. Of all the countries in Latin America, Brazil's ecological movements have sprung up more quickly and have acquired a greater relevance than those of Venezuela and Mexico, for example, who may be regarded as occupying second place in importance.
Perspectives
The article contributes to an understanding of ecological and environmental movements in Brazil at the threshold of redemocratization.
