Why is it important?

This paper introduces the TPCK (or TPACK) framework that describes what teachers' need to know in order to teach with technology. This provides a theoretical and practical way for thinking about how understanding of subject-matter (content), teaching strategies (pedagogy), and technology interact in successful teaching with technology.

Perspectives

This highly-cited paper helped form a whole sub-branch of educational technology. Many scholars today have followed up and further developed this framework, and have applied it in various settings to help teachers learn to use technology.
