What is it about?

Examples of best practice within social care research are identified, and lessons are drawn from health and other fields in an attempt to progress research within social care.

Why is it important?

There is considerable evidence of ethnic inequalities in social care. However, understanding of ethnicity and the difference it makes in care is relatively underdeveloped, in research, policy and practice.

Perspectives

This article drew on a methods review commissioned by the NIHR School for Social Care Research. I was the lead author on the review, and had the opportunity to work with Gary Craig and Karl Atkin. It was a pleasure to work with them and to learn from their decades of experience.
