What is it about?

Echinochloa oryzicola, Schoenoplectus juncoides and Monochoria vaginalis are formidable weeds in paddy field. They are dominant in paddy field because of their strong torelance of Fe-toxicity.

Why is it important?

For example, the population of Echinochloa crus-galli is smaller than that of E. oryzicola. That is because E. oryzicola has an strong torelance for Fe-toxity. Namely, whether or not weeds can survive in paddy fields is depends on the torelance of Fe-toxicity.

Perspectives

To reduce the weeds in paddy fields, the apprication of organic materials is important because it increase the Fe2+ content in soil solution, and thus the reduction of these weeds.
