What is it about?

We investigated the development of clubroot symptoms when susceptible plants were grown under different temperatures. There was very little disease development when temperatures were below 14 - 17 oC. The optimum temperture was between 20 and 26 oC and symptoms were reduced at higher temperatures.

Why is it important?

This research helps to explain why seeding canola or other clubroot susceptible crops in the spring when soil temperatures are cool can reduce the amount of disease that develops. It also explains why very little clubbing is found on plants that grow under cool conditions in other locations
