What is it about?

Clinicians will often talk about 'nurses eating their young' as if this was unique to wards or hospitals. In nursing academia, the phenomenon can seem more like buffet night, with a veritable smorgasbord of appalling behaviours and Machiavellian machinations regularly on display. In this editorial we highlight some of the worst excesses of academic nursing 'Killer Elite' and point out the damage that their antics do to the credibility of Nursing as an academic discipline.

Why is it important?

David and I have had more feedback and comment on this editorial than on almost anything else we have published. To say that this "struck a nerve" would be an understatement. I'd also say that every email that we have received has been positive and encouraging. Most also came complete with the sender's own examples of the Killer Elite operate in their particular school.

Perspectives

We are currently working on an update to the editorial, a 'Killer Elite 2' and would welcome any specific examples of the Killer Elite's modus operandi from your own experience. Naturally, any examples shared with us will be careful anonymised and de-identified. Many thanks if you would like to contribute.
