What is it about?
To explore the prevalence and risk factors of infertility in Iran, a total of 12 285 ever-married women aged 15-50 years old and their husbands (if available) were interviewed by 82 female general practitioners and answered a self-administered questionnaire on several aspects of infertility.

Why is it important?
The distress and personal devastation experienced by couples suffering infertility has been recognized between different cultures worldwide. The life time prevalence of infertility in populations of women who have tried to have children in industrialized countries is 16–26%.
Perspectives
Infertility is an issue of concern to public health professionals and public policy makers for a number of reasons. Infertility is a medical circumstance that not only has health implications for those involved, but is a condition linked with individual human rights.
