What is it about?
Strong selection in the Israeli Holstein dairy cattle population over the last three decades should have left clear signatures of selection.

Why is it important?
Thirty signatures of recent selection were identified on 17 of the 29 bovine autosomes. Thus, the changes in haplotypes frequencies in the bulls’ population accurately estimate genetic trends in the general cow population and can be used to detect signatures of recent selection.
Perspectives
This is first time in which the relationship between the "relative extended haplotype homozygosity" and positive selection has been validated by analysis of changes in allelic frequencies of actual populations over time.
