What is it about?

The aim of this study was to explore the experience of nurses and midwives working in the acute care sector across NSW, Australia during COVID-19. Caring for a COVID-19 patient was associated with significantly greater pandemic-related stress and depression, lower subjective wellbeing and self-compassion.

Why is it important?

These findings will inform strategies to facilitate psychological resources that support nurses and midwives’ psychological adjustment, enabling better pandemic preparedness, and targeted and ongoing support at both an individual and organisational level.
