Perspectives

borders and state territoriality have been generally conceived from the perspective of a Westphalian model of statehood. Yet, the Syrian refugee crisis in Iraqi Kurdistan shows that other dynamics are in place and that borders are very "thin" when they are under the pressure of humanitarian emergency and transnational conflict dynamics.
