What is it about?
the evidence is always there but the instruments of measuring inequality and how it is impacted upon have been lacking. Thanks to the ingenuity of Bang et al (2017), it is now easy to see how international remittances are narrowing income gaps in recipient countries. we found this to be true in Senegal but same is also found in Kenya.

Why is it important?
our work makes it clear that migrant destination countries and national governments can reduce poverty by alleviating barriers to poor intending migrants. most importantly, even if access to migration is evenly distributed between the poor and the rich, the poor has more to gain
Perspectives
I think the debate about migration and remittances is narrowing down to policy choices of sending and receiving countries. it is becoming less ambiguous that remittances might be more useful for economic development than ODAs since remittances go direct to the target population.
