Remittance is an important external financial source for developing countries. We examined the remittances and energy consumption nexus in Morocco.

Why is it important?

Previous studies associated remittances with various macroeconomic and social variables. This the first study that examines the cointegration and causality relationship between remittances and energy consumption in a developing country. Our results indicate that remittances influence energy consumption directly and indirectly.
