Why is it important?

Cities that show higher shares of employment in the secondary and tertiary sectors, higher maximum temperatures, and a higher proportion of middle-aged vacant houses act tend to attract inhabitants, whereas a higher unemployment rate is a push factor for cities.

Perspectives

I hope the findings of this article can be used by local governmnents as a guide for policies. Cities aiming to gain inhabitants have to be competitive at labour market. Cities that accept population decline have to develop policies aiming to ensure high quality of life to their inhabitants.
