What is it about?
Workers who change their occupation, have less wage penalties if they change between similar occupations. At the same time, workers who stay in their occupations, also experience an alteration of their job tasks over time, which is associated with additional wage growth beyond the effect of tenure.

Why is it important?
This article is one of the first to investigate over-time changes of tasks within occupations and relate them to wage dynamics. It shows that changes in tasks of job stayers should be accounted for when studying wage dynamics associated with occupational mobility. The article also tests different measurement issues of task similarities.
Perspectives
This article gives insights in what happens to our jobs over time and what does this imply for our wages. This article is a part of my bigger research agenda on job contents.
