What is it about?

This article informs us as to the state of fisheries in different tuna management bodies globally, and what is being done to help build sustainable fisheries. The article provides the current state of sustainable management practices through a practice called MSE (Management Strategy Evaluation) in the different regional tuna management bodies, and provides best practice guidelines to be more effective in the design.

Why is it important?

This article provides best practice guidelines on how MSEs should be setup to simulate population trajectories, and how feedback control is built in with these simulations. Without a realistic simulation, we could get misleading results on how to manage these fisheries globally, and hence the way these MSE's are setup is extremely critical.

Perspectives

Getting 5 different tuna RFMO's with 18-20 lead scientists working together is a difficult task. Nonetheless, consensus was reached on the work although it took almost 2 years to build that.
