What is it about?
Epileptic seizures can occur in isolation or in series / clusters. This study investigates how seizures determine if a cluster will end.

Why is it important?
The finding that longer seizures are needed to stop a cluster is relevant to unterstanding mechanisms relevant to normalize a hyperexcitable cortex in epilepsy.
Perspectives
Knowledge about seizure duration can have effects on treatment decisions, i.e. when to interfere with a cluster. Furthermore it can prompt basic research on the differential effects of ictal events of variable duration on postictal excitability.
