What is it about?

Multinationals from emerging markets often have difficulties when competing internationally. Especially when competing in turbulent and changing industries. This study analyzes how emerging multinationals compete internationally and develop capabilities while responding to external forces associated with their competitors and markets.

Why is it important?

Our findings contribute to the theoretical debates about internationalization and capability building in emerging markets. Moreover, it highlights how companies in turbulent industries respond to reconfiguration forces by internationalizing, adhering to global governance standards, establishing external connections and networks, and exhibiting improvisational skills to remain relevant in the market.

Perspectives

This study deeply analyzes the decisions and evolution of a non-traditional company from a non-traditional industry in a geographical context that has been incipiently explored in existing research. I see this manuscript as an opportunity to explore the exciting and challenging Latin American business environment from the perspective of a local company that deals with multiple competitive pressures.
