What is it about?

Tuberculosis (TB) is a common disease, but cardiovascular TB is relatively uncommon. TB can affect any layer of the heart; endocardial TB is the rarest form. Here, a case of cardiovascular TB has been described in a middle-aged lady from the SAARC nation.

Why is it important?

Endocardial tuberculoma, when it occurs, can easily be confused with other common causes of intracardiac mass lesions, especially in echocardiography. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment is essential, as only this can lessen the associated morbidity and mortality.

Perspectives

TB is a reemerging disease. It can present in so many ways that may be a real puzzle. Cardiovascular TB, though uncommon, is sometimes a possibility, especially in developing countries. Endocardial tuberculoma may be an important differential diagnosis of intracardiac mass. The clinicians, and also the echocardiographers should have appropriate preparedness to deal with this diagnosis efficiently.
