What is it about?

Health professionals perspectives of cancer care for Indigenous Australians

Featured Image

Why is it important?

It is important to improve health system access and use for cancer care by Indigenous Australians to reduce differences in outcomes

Perspectives

Significant barriers to the health system still exist. Some of these are institutional and systematic challenges (including institutional racism) while others derive from ongoing individual issues (including discrimination by health professionals). Improvements in health professionals cultural awareness and sensitivity as well as the flexibility of the health system to provide more individualised care would help this. Fostering improvements to health system and health professionals support for Indigenous people and to building rapport with Indigenous patients would improve Indigenous peoples engagement in the health system
