This is the first retrospective study evaluating the effect of metformin in the type 1 diabetes mellitus population over a ten year period.

Why is it important?

Metformin is widely prescribed in type 1 diabetes mellitus but is rather based on expert opinion. This study shows that metformin use in type 1 diabetes mellitus is not associated with improved metabolic outcome.
