What is it about?

We explored annual alcoholic beverage sales in Canada during 2004-2022, measured in liters of ethanol per capita. We saw no noticeable change in total consumption during that period, though Canadians did steadily switch from beer to other beverages. We also analyzed monthly sales during 2017-2019, from 12 months before cannabis legalization to 12 months afterward. We found no statistically significant change in retail sales of total alcoholic beverages measured in Canadian dollars per capita, or in whole sales of beer measured in liters of product per capita.
