What is it about?
Splenic tumours are relatively rare and difficult to diagnose before surgery. Inflammatory pseudotumour is a rare space-occupying lesion of unknown aetiology, characterized by fibroblastic proliferation with varying degrees of inflammatory cell infiltration. Fine needle aspiration cytology is a safe and cost-effective technique for making a definite pathological diagnosis of splenic lesions.

Why is it important?
IPT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a solitary splenic spindle cell mass, despite its rarity. Diagnosis on cytological examination is possible with the exclusion of other neoplastic and non-neoplastic differential diagnoses.
