Why is it important?

Surgeons considering taking up TaTME need to prepare by a combination of observing cases in theatre, live demonstrations or video recording, attend a theoretical course on equipment, anatomy, potential pitfalls and then complete a cadaveric dissection to be ready to proceed to surgery in patients, ideally with a mentoring experienced TaTME surgeon

Perspectives

TaTME is an attractive concept for difficult low rectal cancers but it is more difficult than it first appeared and their is an international consensus that training before starting this technique is essential
