What is it about?
Sodium citrate sprayed in those has shown some early potential as a short-term relief from smell loss not cause by nasal blockages. This trial compared sodium citrate to sterile water and showed an improvement in smell for 30-120 mins after application in 1 in 3 subjects.

Why is it important?
Treatment options for smell loss are limited and new therapeutic options are desperately needed.
Perspectives
Loss of smell has not received the same attention as other sensory losses. This trial is a next step in pushing forward the need to undertake more trials for non-conductive olfactory losses.
