What is it about?

It is important to conserve tissue as much as possible when operating on eye muscles

Why is it important?

The surgical technique does not need to be one where all the fibrous tissue is stripped off the eye muscles - it is important to conserve tissue to help prevent scarring.

Perspectives

Many new strabismus surgeons strip all the muscle attachments off, including tenon's capsule to make the surgical field look neat. This technique is important when exposing muscles for show e.g. in Anatomy School. However, in real-life surgery, care should be taken to conserve tenon's capsule.
