What is it about?

Measuring the scale and timing of uplift of African plate in southern Algeria, and linking this to possible mechanisms that may control intra plate movements. Important for understanding how and why basin are uplifted and basin evolution and effect this will have on petroleum generation and timing of hydrocarbon charge in a basin.

Why is it important?

New data for first time quantifies the magnitude of uplift and scale of area effected. New data improves dating and adds to previously recognized inversion of this region. Two other papers on the region published this year (2016) by English et al link this with the petroleum charge history ,with significant implications for our understanding on the complex mechanisms involved in charge and migration of hydroocarbons inverted basins.
