What is it about?

Harold Ernberg considered that a " second factor" was necessary to explain the clinical presentation of PS in infancy. He was right. That facor is a developmental factor necessary o maintain maximum acid secretion in the newly born for he first wo weeks. The second factor is the insensitivity of the negtive feed-back between gastrin and gastric acidity. Hence all babies are protected to some extent from enteric infection. A small minority who have already an inherited Parietal Cellemass develop critical hyperacidity at the time the second factor is having its peak effect. This provokes repeated sphincter contraction which leads to hypertrophy Such a system supplies hyperacidity when it is needed and avoids serious hyperacidity problems in later life .
