What is it about?

This article is presenting the results of an empirical investigation into the new phenomena of Drunkorexia (i.e. the use of disordered eating specifically for the intended purpose of saving calories for binge drinking). It was the first study ever conducted in Australia. Results indicated that there were a large percentage of young female adults between the ages of 18 to 25 who reported the use of dietary restriction, starvation, skipping meals, excessive exercise, purging, using laxatives purely to reduce alcohol calories

Why is it important?

It shows that Drunkorexia may be a new classification of eating disorders separate from the traditional ones based on motivation. It is also very important given the psychological and physical risks of binge drinking upon an empty stomach

Perspectives

Personally I feel this is one of the more important topics I have covered in my line of research. It is a novel area that is rather interesting but deserves more attention given its complex nature and consequential outcomes.
