What is it about?

A Comparison of Robustness properties using trimmed likelihood estimators and hybrid estimators based on a combination of the beta trimmed mean and the mle.

Why is it important?

The study is the first of its kind incorporating robustness evaluations of various estimators such as the mle when there is censoring.

Perspectives

This article began with a study by Karuru Wamahiu in an honours thesis at Murdoch University which was supervised by Brenton. Christine Mueller visited Murdoch at this time and a draft of a paper by Brenton Karuru and Christine was prepared Brenton visited Christine and her student Alexandra Hoeller added to the development, in particular noticing that the trimmed likelihood estimator does not always trim the censored observations. This was a truly international collaboration.
